It's not often that a book comes my way that has been co-authored by someone 'on the other side,' and while this premise might seem a bit odd to some, it's perfectly in keeping with the core concept of "The Afterlife Revolution." Whitley Strieber discovered when his wife, Anne, passed away that not only did the love continue on, but so did communication, and also ideas and inspiration for this book. Whitley describes his wife Anne as having been a remarkably wise woman when she was alive, when she shared many ideas that created a foundation for understanding persistence of consciousness after death. The Afterlife Revolution combats what the Striebers call a kind of 'soul-blindness' that has been spreading through the human community. "It is the soul, not the body, that is the most important part of any living creature and especially those who are like us, not only conscious but intelligent. Intelligent souls are the most creative branch of consciousness in the universe and are prcious beyond belief. But not if they are confused and unformed. That's a tragedy." (p. 26) Whitley describes receiving communications from Anne a few minutes after she died, when he found a book fallen open in their office, Roy Frieden's Physics from Fisher Information, laid open to a page where Anne had years earlier marked the sentence, " a single observation of the metric occurred at the onset of the Universe, and this generated the Wheeler-DeWitt equation for the pure radiation universe which had existed then. In other words, the gravitational structure of the Univesre was generated out of a single, primordial quest for knowledge." (p. 56) One of the things I love most about The Afterlife Revolution is the way Whitley describes Anne's relationship to the divine, which he described as being " private but powerful. I felt that she was closer to God than anyone else I have ever known. She would say, 'We don't know what god is,' but also, 'God is my best friend.'" (p. 89) I also love the way Whitley continues to converse with his beloved wife, Anne, even after she'd died. And sometimes what Whitley hears is rather surprising to him, and gets him thinking just as much as Anne would do when she was alive. One such example is the time Whitley heard Anne tell him in response to some of his many questions, "You see the world through a slit." Whitley could see Anne's point, and when he asked if we could see more, she continued, "Some psychics already do, but it needs to be something everybody does." Anne then elaborates, "It's the first thing you find out when you come here. Then you realize that people can't hear you no matter how loud you shout. It's because we're less dense and faster. We can see you and hear you, but you can't perceive us." (p. 108) Anne later describes the feeling of being in the afterlife as, "I'm a dream, but I'm also me." (p. 122) This gets to the point of feeling at one with the universe in a state of consciousness that may not seem ordinary to most of us who are alive right now, yet which actually is much more accessible than most of us have been led to believe. And this is exactly the point of The Afterlife Revolution, and the value it brings. And while Whitley muses that he will not see his beloved Anne again--at least not as she was--he also recognizes something amazing. "All I know is that wherever she is, love is there, too, as it is everywhere that being is, the found, the lost, the wanderers and theseekers, it does not matter. This greater love--objective love--simply is. It sees reality from the outside and yet also fills it in every nook and cranny. It allows without necessarily accepting, and that is why it is so fundamentally different from the idea known as 'unconditional love,' which as a form of sentimentality, both allows and accepts." (p. 125) Getting to the point of why The Afterlife Revolution is necessary and why it is happening now, Whitley explains that nonphysical mankind along with many helpers "is preparing physical mankind for the shock of species initiation, and to use our planet afterward in a new way." (p. 134) Anne provides insights as to where this evolution of species initiation will lead: "All through history, there have been those who have lived in conscious relationship with Earth and cosmos. We call them masters. In the future, everybody who enters the physical will do so as a master of being. And why will we still be using the physical? Give somebody a kiss. That's why. Humanity's destiny in the universe is to bring forth the experience of love, that all may share in it. Objective love, the core creative urgency, is also the essential human energy." (p. 136) We can come to realize that genuine happiness comes from knowing ourselves--and much of the true beauty of The Afterlife Revolution is that it can help us do just that. Not merely as the human beings we've been told we are, whose bodies will surely one day wither and die--but as truly infinite beings of love and consciousness, who have tremendous potential to transcend the barrier between life and death. This book is wonderful for anyone interested in knowing their true nature and exploring mysteries of the universe. Highly recommended!
