Set Yourself On Fire

Every time I've succeeded against seemingly impossible odds, I've had one very important thing going for me: an inner fire of enthusiasm. These flames of enthusiasm give me a burning passion for what I most love and cherish. When I've felt this fire burning inside me, I've swung majority opinion from 100% opposed to 100% in favor of the cause I am championing. I've convinced a board of judges to grant an award to a deserving employee, I've shifted school board members' votes for rebuilding a new school, and been the lone minority voice who swung majority opinion through my burning enthusiasm. When I've felt like I was on fire with a need to make a difference, others have noticed it too, saying things like "Watching you in action is like seeing Mr. Smith Goes to Washington!"

I love Norman Vincent Peale's observation that "There is a real magic in enthusiasm. It spells the difference between mediocrity and accomplishment." This real magic is the energy inside of you that shines forth like a thousand fires. People are highly responsive to those who feel and show their inner fire. Note how the world's great musicians, artists, writers, teachers, political leaders, lawyers, and business men and women are most inspirational when they set themselves afire with enthusiasm, while those who lack the illumination of that inner brightness seem lackluster, average, and dull.

Enthusiasm is a subtle energy that can be seen and felt by others. Artist Lowell Brook created a portrait she calls, "On Fire," which beautifully illustrates the feeling of burning with a sense of higher purpose and inspired passion. The flames of light dancing around her head in the painting are perfectly balanced with the look of firm resolve on her face... and it's clear to me that this woman is going to make a difference in the world.

So what's the secret to feeling this bright, burning fire of enthusiasm? It helps to quiet your mind, and remember times in your life when you felt inspired and excited about something... and listen in that quiet to get a sense of what your purpose in life truly is. Sometimes it helps to talk to someone who is enthusiastic, because enthusiasm can be contagious. Spend more time with people who are passionate about what they do, do more things that bring you the most joy, and start paying attention to what makes you feel fired up. Once you find what truly inspires you, you'll discover how wonderful it feels to be on fire!

My husband and I have experienced a couple of reality shifts in the past in which the missing items turned up later in exactly the same spot from which they had disappeared. One item was a motorcycle key, which was missing for two weeks, and the other was a container of rice leftover from the previous night, which was missing for about a day.

A more recent reality shift happened last Saturday, just before I left for Florida, when my Italian charm bracelet had moved from one side of the bathroom sink (where I always keep it along with all my other bracelets), to the other side of the bathroom sink - for no apparent reason. But in this case, I was trying to create a reality shift, because I've had two dreams where I've died in Florida, and I wanted to change that before I left on my trip. I took the relocating bracelet as the first sign that I had succeeded in this. The second sign was when I got to the airport Sunday morning and was told that my flight was canceled due to the fact that the plane I was supposed to be on never made it to the airport because of fog. They had to put me on a different carrier, which also took a different route. The fact that I'm back and not too much worse for the wear is my third sign. :-)

TRAVELING SLIPPERS

First, let me say that I really enjoy your ezine and look forward to the articles every month. This last Saturday I had an interesting experience. We had guests coming over for dinner and I had been wearing my slippers as I cooked and cleaned all day in preparation for them. As I was getting ready for my guests, I took off my slippers and put them in my bedroom closet and then put on some dress shoes. The next morning my dog wanted to go outside, so I got up and put on a robe. I decided not to get my slippers out of the closet because I felt that I would wake up my husband if I opened the closet door. I was thinking about the slippers because the floor was cold (it's winter where I live), and I thought, "I can stand this. My feet will only be cold only for a few minutes. After the dog comes back in, I'll go back to bed and get them all warm again." I sat down on the couch to wait for the dog to come to the door when I looked out of the corner of my eye and saw my slippers beside the couch. They were in a place where I would have tripped over them a few minutes before as I had let the dog out. So, they hadn't been there a few minutes before. Also, they were in a place where I would never take off nor leave my slippers -- and I distinctly remember putting them in the closet the night before and not taking them out. I took it as a reality shift and as a sign that the Universe is taking care of my needs.

REALITY SHIFT DREAM

I am not sure how I found your website, but when I saw the link for reality shifts, I remembered a dream that has puzzled me for over ten years.

I dreamt one night that I was living in a space station orbiting Saturn. The view was lovely. One night, as I slept, I was visited by an invisible entity. I could not see it, but I knew it was there, and it was quite benevolent. It laid in bed with me and was talking with me telepathically, giving me information in giant chunks. In the dream, I understood everything. Later when I woke up, I could not remember the information. But the startling thing was, it took a quarter from the bed side table, put it on the sheet and then dematerialized it. A moment later, it re-materialized about two inches from its original location. Then, the entity told me that was a time shift and then flooded my mind with more information. It was an incredibly profound moment between us. Then I woke up.

I've never quite understood the dream until now, until discovering your website. Thanks!

(5) Reality Shifters Q & A

Q: Hi Cynthia,

I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy receiving your email newsletters. Even before I found your website, I had been experiencing reality shifts in my own life and reading about others with similar experiences confirmed what I already believed to be true.

This leads me to my question. I seem to be "in communication" with someone through a series of signs I receive from this person in my daily reality. The signs are based on certain conversations I've had with this person face-to-face (this person is still alive), and sometimes those signs appear everywhere throughout my day. I can even ask questions at times and receive answers via these signs.

My question is -- am I mistaken to believe it is this person's spirit I am communicating with? Or is it possibly the Universe in general that I am communicating with? I know this sounds a little redundant because of course our energies are all a part of the same universe. I would love to know what you think.

Thanks so much for the lovely email! I'm glad to know you've been experiencing reality shifts for some time... even before encountering the reality shifts web site. I'm really glad the web site is there to provide some confirmation that you're not going crazy, and this kind of phenomenon really is happening all around the world to all kinds of people.

The kind of responsiveness you're noticing with receiving signs around you in response to questions you as or things you think or say is something I'm quite familiar with. Some people's spirits communicate this way quite readily... such as close friends and family. Once you recognize the universe as being a kind of lucid waking dream, you'll find increasing examples of situations coming your way in direct response to what you're thinking and feeling. You can ask a question of a loved one when they are nowhere nearby, and get an answer from all kinds of signs in the world around you. This happens because each of us is entangled with everyone and everything else... and at some level, we are clearly aware of what's going on with people we love, even when they're thousands of miles away. You can also get answers and signs from many other levels of universal energy... from that divine oneness all the way down through various levels of divine awareness... all the way down to human awareness. The more you practice these communications, the better able you'll be to know who it is you are conversing with. And yes... you can ask them!
